I'd book this if it's your first visit to Faial. The shared tour with buffet lunch starts at €130 per adult. The route covers Caldeira and Capelinhos in 7 hours. Horta pickup is included.
I'd choose the lunch option. You get 1 hour at Capelinhos. If you skip lunch, you wait at the restaurant. The stop can be skipped if the whole group agrees. The private option lets your group set the pace.

- Horta pickup
Join the van at your Horta accommodation or the ferry terminal. Look for the grey Opel van.
- Monte da Guia to Praia do Almoxarife
Start at Monte da Guia for views over Porto Pim. Continue via Nossa Senhora da Conceição to Praia do Almoxarife. You have 30 minutes at the beach before lunch.
- Lunch and Caldeira
The usual route pauses at a local restaurant for lunch. Continue via Flamengos to Caldeira for a short walk. The crater stop lasts 30 minutes.
- Capelinhos 1 hour
You have 1 hour at Capelinhos. The volcano itself is closed to visitors as of 13 October 2026. The interpretation centre is an option when open.
- Porto do Comprido 15 minutes
Visit the natural pools formed by basalt rocks. The route passes the former whaling village.
- Back in Horta
Return to your meeting point or Horta accommodation. The shared tour usually ends at 16:30.
