Horta Airport (HOR) serves Faial. Pico uses PIX. Santa Maria uses SMA. Graciosa uses GRW. São Jorge uses SJZ. Flores uses FLW. Corvo uses CVU. Search for your destination island’s airport when comparing tickets. Check the itinerary for any changes of plane.

Which airlines fly to the Azores from mainland Portugal and Europe?
Azores Airlines and TAP Air Portugal fly from mainland Portugal. Azores Airlines serves the islands from Lisbon, Porto and Faro. TAP has Lisbon flights to Ponta Delgada and Terceira. Lisbon also has direct Azores Airlines flights to Horta and Pico.
Azores Airlines links Ponta Delgada with Paris, Barcelona and Frankfurt in summer. These routes are suspended for winter 2026/2027. British Airways flies from London Heathrow to Ponta Delgada in summer. Check the season before choosing dates.
Ryanair ended all Azores flights on 29 March 2026. For winter travel from Europe, I’d compare connections through Lisbon and Porto. Choose your arrival island first. A direct Lisbon to Ponta Delgada flight takes about 2 hours 30 minutes.

How do you fly between the islands?
Fly between the islands with SATA Air Açores. Its network reaches all nine islands. Book through the SATA Azores Airlines website. Check the timetable before choosing your island order. Some journeys require a connection. I’d choose these flights before booking accommodation.
For a trip visiting several islands, ask about the Azores Air Pass. You must live outside the Azores. You need a ticket between the Azores and an outside destination. Buy the pass through SATA’s contact centre or shops.

Is it expensive to fly to the Azores?
Prices depend on dates and routes. Your ticket type also affects the total. Compare the full return price. Include the baggage you need. On Azores Airlines, Simple covers cabin baggage. Basic includes checked baggage as well. Read the fare conditions before booking.
I’d compare nearby dates on the airline’s fare calendar. Add any flights between islands to the total. Then check the cost of changing or cancelling each ticket. Compare each airline with the same baggage allowance.

How do you get from Ponta Delgada airport to the city?
Take a taxi from Arrivals to reach central Ponta Delgada. João Paulo II Airport is less than 3 km from the city centre. Adapted taxis are available through Cresaçor.
You can also collect a hire car at the airport. I’d take a taxi if my first stay were in town. If you plan to drive around São Miguel straight away, compare airport car hire before booking.
